The IGCSE First Language English course is designed to develop students’ ability to communicate clearly, accurately, and effectively in both speech and writing. Students learn to use a wide-ranging vocabulary, the correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation, and to organize their ideas in a coherent and focused manner. The course encourages reading, interpretation, and analysis of different types of text and literary forms.
IGCSE First Language English usually consists of two components:
Paper 1: Reading Passage (Core and Extended)
Paper 2: Directed Writing and Composition (Core and Extended)
Component 3: Speaking and Listening (Optional in some jurisdictions)

Exam Familiarity: Past papers help students become familiar with the format of the questions and the expectations of the examiners.

Technique Refinement: Understanding the marking schemes and examiner reports can refine students’ techniques in writing and responding to questions.
